Basketball League Conditioning

When I was in high school, the day after Thanksgiving was always the worst practice. This is mainly because we were relaxing, and eating a lot the day before. We are usually tired and not wanting to run or work hard at practice the next day. So every year my coach would always make it the toughest conditioning usually. She would typically say to bring your running shoes. We would run suicides, do full court lay-ups, and have to run for every mistake in practice. She pretty much would make us regret eating at all the day before. Since I went through this traumatic experience, I decided that I would NOT make the kids go through that during the basketball league. We played a lot of games. We played pac man, knockout, and dribble tag. I coached the older kids, and they played 2 on 2 most of the time. We didn't have as many children as we usually do because of the holiday weekend. But we decided to make the day a lot of fun for the kids who did show up.

Black Friday Shopping

I love black friday! It is probably one of my top favorite holidays out of the whole year. It's exciting staying up all night shopping, and trying to find the best deals. The crowds aren't my favorite, but it is something that you have to deal with. This year, I had my eyes on an iPad, a flat-screen tv, and the new dance central game for the wii. I was out at Walmart at midnight standing by waiting for the electronics sale to start. Unfortunately, so was the entire town. Out of the electronics on my list, I was only able to get the Dance Central game. I played this game on thanksgiving with my family at my grandma's house on the xbox. You didn't even need to use the controllers. It was a lot of fun. I must say that I dominated every member of my family. But it was fun for everyone to enjoy this game together. After I was done playing it, I knew I had to get it on Black Friday. The game is a little different for the wii. You need to hold the wii remote in your hand while you are dancing. But it is still just as fun.

Thanksgiving Dinner Tips

In my family, Thanksgiving is a time of spending time with family, love, and good food. I usually have to go to a few thanksgiving dinners, and I am expected to eat at every meal. But I always find myself getting full after the first meal. So, I have come up with a few tips on how to be able to eat at every meal, without having to feel stuffed and overeat. I take a little bit of each dish. I usually only take about a spoonful of everything. Enough for my plate to look full, but for my stomach to still have room. I also drink lots of fluids to wash down the meal. Hope these help!

Basketball League

I am a coach/instructor at the New Castle YZONE for the youth basketball league. The league is for children from grades 1st through third grade. All of the kids are at different skill levels, so it is sometimes difficult to teach them concepts. So, we break them down into groups based on grade, and skill level in that grade. We have about 20 kids that come every saturday. For the first half of the hour we teach them a skill they can use, and the second half they get to play 5 on 5 basketball. On 11/20/10, we worked a lot on defense. We taught them about defensive stance, and on ball off ball defense. I worked with the younger kids, who don't have as much knowledge of the game. We also played knockout, and dribble tag. With the younger kids we decided that for the next week we would have them play 3 on 3, so all the kids would get a chance to be involved in the action.
